Our clients have an enviable history of delivering rail engineering projects worldwide – from inception through to project close out. It’s an exciting time for our business as we’re working on highly varied projects ranging from small and niche to large and multi-disciplinary.

They currently have a requirement for a Testing Commissioning Manager on our Thameslink Project in London

Duties

The duties will include but are not limited too:

  • Ensuring the safe testing and commissioning of completed installations to achieve the necessary plant performance in accordance with the Project programme requirements.
  • Developing the Testing and Commissioning Strategy for the Project and thus establish the sequence, scope and detailed breakdown by discipline of the packages to be handed over by the Project.
  • Establishing Documentation Systems required for undertaking and recording all Testing and Commissioning activities.
  • In conjunction with the Implementation Manager developing and managing Testing and Commissioning programmes.
  • In conjunction with the Implementation Manager identifying the requirements and assisting in the recruitment of Testing and Commissioning resource.
  • Production of the Testing and Commissioning Strategy for inclusion in the GRIP 4 Stage of the Project.
  • Identifying any particular Testing/Commissioning requirements/features that may need to be incorporated into the design of equipment/systems.
  • Managing the production of System Commissioning requirements / specifications / procedures and all associated documentation for the permanent works integrated systems and coordination of these with the Implementation Manager.
  • Directly providing specialist testing /commissioning advice to or on behalf of the E&P Project Team as may be relevant or appropriate.
  • Interfacing with NR on behalf of and/or in conjunction the Team in respect of any Testing and Commissioning activity.
  • Interfacing with Design Team and Construction Team in respect of site queries where relevant and where agreed with the Engineering Manager.
  • Interfacing with any specialist Testing/Commissioning service organisation (internal or external) on behalf of the Team.
  • In conjunction with the Systems Integration & Assurance Manager, interfacing with equipment Suppliers in respect of Factory Test requirements and documentation.
  • Attending Factory Acceptance Tests or arranging such attendance in conjunction with the Engineering Manager or System Integration & Assurance Manager as may be required.
  • Identifying the requirements for testing and commissioning equipment that may be required, sourcing this equipment and if necessary subsequently being the guardian of all such equipment and ensuring it is properly maintained and calibrated as may be required
  • Development of the arrangements for the issuing, filing, storage and safe keeping of all Testing and Commissioning documentation.

Job Description:

Working within our modern air-conditioned electronic assembly and test facility, you will be responsible for testing and fault-finding to component level on a wide arrange of complex communication and related electronic systems. You will join a team applying their broad electronic knowledge and experience effectively whilst working to high quality standards and tight deadlines. Key Objectives / Areas of Responsibility

  • Undertaking testing and fault-finding to component level ensuring that specified equipment and procedures are used
  • Continual review of existing test specifications to ensure they are fit for purpose and to identify changes to enhance test processes
  • Understanding and adherence to local Health & Safety and ESD procedures as well as actively identifying, and responding to, any additional risks whilst undertaking tests
  • Establish productive working relationships with design, engineering and planning teams to maintain regular liaison to discuss issues and agree improvements to designs, plans and test specifications
  • Development of test specifications for newly developed products, including the provision of test documentation

Experience and Knowledge Requirements

Essential

  • In-depth practical experience of electronic test and fault-finding gained from working in a high quality manufacturing environment
  • An ONC/HNC or higher in Electronics Engineering
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines and willingness to provide out-of hours support on a rota basis
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Good computer skills and competency in basic MS Office applications
  • Excellent communication and liaison skills
  • An enthusiastic, self starting approach with an appetite for success
  • Good organisation skills for a demanding environment
  • Willingness to learn, improve and adapt

Desirable

  • A degree in Electronic Engineering

The client is a leading supplier of specialised electro-mechanical systems that are used throughout the UK and Europe. This well respected organisation has been supplying this marketplace for decades, establishing and nurturing long term relationships with a customer base at the forefront of technology.

Following expansion, they seek to recruit a customer focused and highly motivated Electrical / Mechanical Commissioning Engineer, responsible for developing customer relationships and commissioning high value capital equipment in France. The role will involve extensive travel throughout France and some staying away from home – typically this will be up to 2 weeks at a time. You will carry out the commissioning, final testing and validation of these sophisticated PLC-controlled systems and provide full customer training and user documentation.

Vacancy Requirements

  • To apply you should be fluent in French and English and must be prepared to relocate to France.
  • You should have a strong background in the servicing and commissioning of electro-mechanical equipment.
  • You should be multi-skilled with an electrical-bias.
  • You may be qualified with a City & Guilds / HNC / HND in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or Mechatronics
  • PC literate.
  • You should have experience of fault-finding, repairing and commissioning a wide range of industrial capital equipment including single & 3 phase electrics, PLCs (Mitsubishi), pneumatics, hydraulics, combustion heaters, motors, gears and general mechanics.

You may currently work in a service or commissioning role, working on a range of high value electro-mechanical capital equipment, or you may be currently working in a maintenance engineer role in a factory or workshop environment.
